Alaska still life painting by Alaskan artist with globe, books, glass, bowl, and paint
“Objects of Distraction” May 2016

This was painted towards the end of my stay in Alaska. It was a lonely and mind-bending place. This painting is a reflection of the things I used to distract myself during the only period in my post-mediation life where I could stand being alone and quiet with myself. I often gazed into the globe and dreamed of lands I would travel to. My laptop, books, even coloring books gave me things to focus on, as did eating out of boredom, one of the worst habits that came with my time there. On a cork board, I counted down the days to my departure with tacks.
